Event info:
Our first Virtually Born To Be Wide includes many of the aspects of the physical events including a live discussion panel, socialising and an opportunity for participants to share news of releases and other forthcoming activities.
As speakers can take part without having to travel, our panel will be focusing on the Gaelic music Fèisean movement, which originated in the Highlands & Islands of Scotland and has developed international initiatives in Australia, Canada and Romania.
It provides work for hundreds of musicians, offers tuition to thousands of people of all ages, hosts festivals, commissions work and established a strong music tourism niche through the Ceilidh Trail. We’ll be looking at how it works and if the model could be adopted in other genres and parts of the world.
The panellists are:
Arthur Cormack (Fèisean nan Gàidheal)
Fiona Dalgetty (Fèis Rois)
Rachel Newton (Radio 2’s folk musician of the year)
Mairearad Green (PRS composer of the year winner)
Before the discussion begins, you will be able to meet fellow attendees in a virtual hangout and have the chance to share news of forthcoming releases, online gigs and other activities. And later the panel, there will also be a chance to connect with speakers and hear from local record shops about their favourite new vinyl.
This month marks the second anniversary of our friend Scott Hutchison’s death, so although it is free to register for this Born To Be Wide, we are asking everyone who books a place to make a donation to the Tiny Changes mental health charity set up in his memory. Click here to donate.
