In celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month, we’re excited to announce special guest Sean Dickson (aka Hifi Sean) for our virtual Q&A and social.
The DJ, producer, label owner and former frontman with The Soup Dragons, will be in-conversation with Olaf Furniss and the evening is hosted in partnership with Creative Scotland and the New Colossus Festival in New York.
The virtual social, which doubles up as Born To Be Wide’s 17th birthday, will take place on Zoom before and after the in-conversation, with the Q&A kicking-off the second half.
Sean will be looking back on his rise from the Scottish indie scene to scoring global hits with I’m Free and Divine Thing, coming out, suffering a breakdown which left him hospitalised and overcoming a 15-year recording hiatus with the release of ground-breaking Ft album in 2016.
This includes the hit single Testify, recorded with Crystal Waters, and saw him working with a wide range of other artists including Bootsy Collins, Yoko Ono, Alan Vega, Dave Ball and his first bandmate, Norman Blake. It also led to a longer-term writing partnership with David McAlmont titled McHifi, with an album set to be released later this year.
Sean has had an incredible life in music and with it come some compelling stories. As he spent a lot of time in the nineties in New York, it’s also great to have our friends from the New Colossus Festival take part and a great opportunity to connect across the Atlantic.
