Born To Be Wide hosts its next seminar on Thursday 5 November, with a look at how to build and nurture artistic and business talent. Taking place at Edinburgh’s Electric Circus, the evening will begin with an interview with Pete Irvine from Unique Events.
He will also join the discussion which will draw on recent reports by the Music Venue Trust and the University of Edinburgh. Hosted by Born To Be Wide director Olaf Furniss, it includes Adam Behr (Live Music Exchange), with more speakers to be announced.
The interview and discussion panel will be followed by speakers playing a selection of their favourite tunes and socialising with the audience.

Taking place at Edinburgh’s Electric Circus, the evening will begin with an interview with Kevin Williamson, whose Neu! Reekie! cultural events regularly attract hundreds of attendees.

He will also join a discussion focusing on different approaches to building an audience. Hosted by Born To Be Wide director Olaf Furniss, it includes Halina Rifai (TYCI/Bloc+Music), Martyn Flyn (Lucky Me) and Creative Edinburgh founder, Janine Matheson.

Off The Record Speakers Announced for Dundee and Aberdeen Events
Record label owners, journalists, DJs and concert promoters are among the industry figures set to share their knowledge at Off The Record days taking place in Dundee (October 3) and Aberdeen (October 4).
Record label owners, journalists, DJs and concert promoters are among the industry figures set to share their knowledge at Off The Record days taking place in Dundee (October 3) and Aberdeen (October 4).
The youth events, open to anyone aged 14-25, will provide advice workshops and presentations focusing on key aspects of the music industry including releasing music, getting/organising gigs, promotion and working in the business.
Confirmed speakers for both days include Jim Gellatly (Amazing Radio/The Scottish Sun), Lewis Gale (Academy of Music and Sound), concert/festival promoter Nicky Carder (Beyond Promotions), digital music distributor Toni Malyn (EmuBands) and booker Steven Milne (The Lemon Tree).
In Dundee they will be joined by label manager Halina Rifai (Bloc Music/Podcart), while the Aberdeen event includes Scott MacDonald (KFM Records), rapper/engineer Dave Hook (Stanley Odd/Solareye) and promoter Aileen Lynn (MILK Glasgow). Additional speakers will be announced in the lead up to the weekend.
The Dundee event takes place at the Caird Hall in partnership with Dundee Festival Trust, while the Aberdeen day is at the Lemon Tree and is hosted in conjunction with Aberdeen Performing Arts and Station House Media Unit.
In addition to existing series partners - the Scottish Government's Youth Music Initiative and digital distribution company EmuBands - Off The Record will also see new partnerships with the Musicians' Union and the Academy of Music & Sound.
