In August we hosted a special talk show at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, featuring artist manager Simon Napier Bell.

Music Journalism Seminar Announced

Following the sell-out success of last week’s music management night, we are delighted to announce our next Born To Be Wide will focus on music journalism. Taking place at the Electric Circus on Thursday 6 November, it begins with  an interview with former Smash Hits editor and Q founder, Mark Ellen.

The veteran scribe, whose extensive CV also includes a decade editing Word Magazine, will be in conversation with Born To Be Wide founder Olaf Furniss.  And in addition to the interview he is set to take part in a panel, DJ and sign copies of his recently-published book, Rock Stars Stole My Life.

Also confirmed for the discussion -   which will look at what determines which acts are featured in the media – are Herald Group Arts Editor Alan Morrison and freelancer Nicola Meighan [The List, Quietus].

Bruce Craigie to replace Dee Bahl at Music Management Event

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Dee Bahl has been forced to cancel his appearance at Born To Be Wide’s music management event,  which takes place at Edinburgh’s Electric Circus this Thursday [October 2].
 
He will be replaced by Bruce Craigie, who has managedIdlewild since the late nineties and who also manages rising stars, Fatherson. Bruce will take part in a Q&A looking back on his career, as well as participating in the discussion panel.
 
This also features Justine Ward from GR, whose roster includes Primal Scream, Texas and Baby Strange, and Björn Sandberg, who looks after Glasgow act Casual Sex.
 
“When Bruce started out in music the business was very different to what it is now,” says Born To Be Wide co-director, Olaf Furniss. “He will be able to provide a fantastic insight into how things have changed and his experience will complement that of Björn and Justine.”

Following the interview and panel, the speakers will play a selection of their favourite tracks.
